Maya women use their perajes to wrap around themselves to hold their groceries, their babies, firewood, or whatever they might need to carry. Also they fold them and wear them on their head against the sun.
The artist had a field day with this unusual dazzling and lush peraje, covered with figures, animals, birds, and even geometric designs.
