Dragons began to appear in Mexican folk art in the early 20th Century when paper mache artists and then Oaxacan wood carvers began making alibrijes, fanciful animals and dragon-like figures. Dragons do not have roots in preHispanic art, as does much of the art of Guerrero. This anonymous carver combines great skill with a lively imagination.
