In the mid nineteenth century in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Pantaleon Panduro, who had been working in a brick factory, began making figures out of the clay. He was talented, and his reputation grew quickly. When he died in 1909, his children continued the tradition he had started. Fernando Martínez and Petra Gutiérrez are the fourth generation in their family working in the Panduro tradition today. They have expanded what Panduro started to create whole scenes, not only portrait figures.
